YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Ridgefield Park firefighters quickly extinguished a basement fire before it could extend throughout the house last night.
The call to the 2½-story, wood-frame Preston Street house came in just before midnight.
No serious injuries were reported, although the homeowner was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation sustained as he was evacuating his family. He declined hospitalization.
A discarded cigarette butt was believed responsible.
Bogota FAST joined their village colleagues while Hackensack provided mutual aid.
