YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A 35-year-old Newark woman was conscious when she was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center after being struck by a pickup truck on Route 46 in Elmwood Park just before 4 p.m., authorities said.
Lynn Slocum, of Newark was struck by a 2004 Toyota Tundra while crossing the highway to a motel on the eastbound side after getting off a bus on the westbound side, Police Chief Michael Foligno told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
“There’s no crosswalk there, no traffic light,” Foligno said. “She popped out in an area where drivers aren’t used to seeing a pedestrian.”
Witnesses told police that the 46-year-old driver from Paterson “had no time to react,” the chief said.
As a result, no summonses were issued, he said.
Westbound Route 46 was temporarily closed at River Drive.
