PHOTOS: Fire drove two Saddle Brook families from their homes tonight.
The 6th Street blaze quickly spread from a first-floor bedroom to the apartment above before blowing through the attic.
Bbut everyone was able to get out safely — including tenant Elhasan Bader and Bella, his 4-year-old German Shepherd, as well as the family cat, Police Chief Robert Kugler told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Bader lives downstairs with his wife, three children and pets. A single mother with three children lives upstairs.
The Red Cross helped both families with shelter and other necessities, said Kugler, adding that borough firefighters responded quickly to the 7:40 p.m. calls and “kept the flames from engulfing the entire house.”
An Elmwood Park FAST team joined firefighters from Fair Lawn, Garfield and Rochelle Park who responded or stood by.
